By train | Aalborg has a train station with frequent connections to other cities in Denmark, such as Copenhagen and Odense, plus smaller towns like Skørping and Frederikshavn.
By bus | There are more than a dozen regular bus connections to Aalborg from other cities in Denmark (like Aarhus, Odense, Copenhagen, Viborg, Herning) and countries such as Germany (Berlin, Hamburg, Kiel) and Poland (Wroclaw, Krakow).
By boat | You can also take a boat to Aalborg, as there are regular ferry services from Norway.

One of the highlights of the museum is the “Aalborg in the Middle Ages” exhibit, which offers a glimpse into the everyday life of the people who lived in Aalborg during the Middle Ages. … Or pay a visit to a legendary Viking burial site
The history doesn’t stop there! Lindholm Høje (translated to Lindholm Hills) is a burial ground and settlement dating back to the Viking Age, and, as such, it’s considered one of the most important Viking sites in Europe.
Lindholm Høje consists of more than 700 burial mounds that were used by the Vikings as a cemetery between the 5th and 10th centuries. The Lindholm Høje Museum is located on the site, which provides visitors with more information about the history and daily lives of the Vikings who lived there.
Best of all, it’s only a 30-minute trip (by bus) from the center of Aalborg to Lindholm Høje, and can be done on a day trip or as part of your itinerary.
Visit the Utzon Center
This cultural center is named after the famous Danish architect Jørn Utzon, the “Albert Einstein of architecture.” Famously known as the man who created the design for the Sydney Opera House, Utzon’s works and designs can be found at this museum. The Utzon Center is an excellent place for lovers of architecture, design, art, and everything in between.

Jomfru Ane Gade is one of the most popular streets in Aalborg, Denmark, and is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for a lively nightlife experience! For those looking for a traditional Danish pub experience, Jomfru Ane Gade offers several options. These pubs often feature a cozy atmosphere and traditional Danish drinks like Carlsberg beer or snaps. Some pubs also offer live music, making it a perfect spot to hang out.
Fun fact: Ironically, Jomfru Ane means Virgin Anne, and is named after a nun who used to live on this street in the 1500s.
Feel the Spirit at Aalborg Carnival
The Aalborg Carnival is a major event in Europe that takes place every year in the last week of May and is known as the biggest carnival in all of Scandinavia!
There are plenty of events during the carnival, including a street party and parade that attracts more than 100,000 visitors from around the world. Best of all, the Aalborg Carnival has a unique theme every year, and the events are all centered around that element. Some of the most interesting themes included When I Grow Up (2020), La Dolce Vita (2009), and 1,000 years of Nordic (1994).
The highlight of the Aalborg Carnival is the Grand Parade, which features thousands of people dressed up in themed clothes, with dancing, food, music, and much more. It’s a great way to experience the city’s vibrant culture and have a lot of fun!
Try the best of Danish cuisine
Foodies will find plenty to enjoy in Aalborg. For example, the city’s Street Food market (Aalborg Streetfood Køkkenfabrikken) is a popular food hall that lets visitors sample a variety of street food from Denmark and countries around the world. From Greek gyros to Italian desserts, the freshest fish and chips, and more, you’ll have plenty of options!
